McCormick Tribune Foundation Brand Development
The McCormick Foundation is one of the nation’s largest charitable organizations, originally established as a charitable trust in 1955 upon the death of Col. Robert R. McCormick, the longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. Since 1955, the foundation has awarded more than $1 billion to support children, communities and country. The McCormick Foundation’s Civics Program aims to provide Chicagoland youth with the knowledge, skills and opportunities that are essential to lifelong civic engagement. The McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum is the nation’s first museum dedicated to the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. The museum houses over 25 interactive exhibits throughout the 10,000 square feet of exhibit space in Chicago’s Tribune Tower. From a 30-foot-long video wall to kiosks and installations in many diverse sizes and configurations, these unique media installations engage individuals and groups to make choices, express their opinions, explore their own limits, and compare views in compelling ways. We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to develop the brand identity for the opening of the museum in Chicago. This year-long project included the development of a unique trademark that helped pay homage to its founder, a variety of promotional material, educational literature, custom illustrations, interior and exterior signage, and the foundation’s annual report to the community.
